Heidi Ortman Sheff

Heidi Ortman Sheff is from a fourth generation diamond and estate jewelry family. Her great grandfather, Julius Ortman, founded J. Ortman Inc., in 1899 in New York City. Julius’ son, Jack Ortman, subsequently took over and expanded their inventory. He in turn passed down his savoir-faire and expertise to Heidi, who spent 6 years under her grandfather’s tutelage.

Heidi studied art, architecture and psychology at CornellUniversity. She also studied jewelry design and art history in Florence, Italy. After graduating college in 1985, Heidi attended the GIA institute, where she became certified in gemology. While attending the GIA, Heidi worked for the family firm under her grandfather’s guidance. After his passing in 1990, she took over the family business, which she continues to run today with her husband, Roger Sheff under the name Ortman & Sheff. Ortman & Sheff proudly carries on the legacy of a 120-year-old, small, family-owned business renowned for its knowledge and expertise in diamonds, color stones and estate jewelry. Specializing in everything from wholesale distribution, retail stores and private clientele, Ortman & Sheff provides clients with rare and unique pieces of jewelry and gems—while always ensuring impeccable service. Since they are an “upstairs” wholesale co., they can provide their clients with exceptional value. “We work with the same jewelry craftsman as Tiffany, Cartier, VCA and Harry Winston without the expensive retail price tag.”

In-house designer, Heidi Ortman Sheff, offers customized creations of all kinds — from classic diamond engagement rings to one-of- a kind creations made with colorful gemstones. Heidi Designz is a subsidiary of Ortman and Sheff which is more moderately priced, offering custom jewelry that is unique and fashion forward for everyday wear.
